Mallorca is a beautiful Mediterranean destination known for its turqoise coves and beaches, but over the past few years it’s also become a destination for wine country and agrotourism. While this has led to exciting changes, it is frustrating to find that local wines are overpriced everywhere you look. Visitors and locals like you shouldn’t have to spend their time searching for fair market value bottles, and so I’ve put together this guide to help YOU find the best wine shop in Palma.
Which is the best wine shop in Palma? Well, that depends on what you are looking for. Below, I’m listing my recommendations. Click on the button for the Google Maps location, contact info, and hours.
Independent Stores
Catavinos has an excellent selection of Mallorcan, Spanish, and International wines. Located on the outskirts of Palma, you’ll need a car to get here.
La Vinoteca has a brick and mortar and an online store. The brick and mortar is located in the center of Palma, where they boast a great selection of Mallorcan, Spanish, and French wines.
Vinámica is located in the town of Lloseta, about a 30 minute drive from Palma.
La Viniloteca is your spot for Natural Wines and Vinyls. They have a superb selection of organic wines made from indigenous Mallorcan grapes. They are located in the old center of Palma.
Sa Roteta is located within Santa Catalina’s Market. They have specialty wines made with local Mallorcan grapes.
Big Box Stores
While we all love to support local businesses, let us not forget about the Big Box Stores. They also do their share of sourcing local wines. At their locations on the island of Mallorca you can find some of the best priced selections of Mallorcan wines. You can surprisingly find some rare wines at great prices.
Agromart is a Balearic chain of supermarkets where “they have opted for local production, to be of local varieties, both horticultural and fruit.”
Carrefour is a French multinational company, but visit the local branches and you’ll find a selection of Local Mallorcan Wines.
Eroski is a Spanish supermarket chain from the Basque Country, they buy in bulk they tend to have special vintages for cheap.
El Corte Inglés is the biggest department store group in Europe and ranks third worldwide. When you’re visiting in Palma, check their local wine section, be sure to also visit their Gourmet section on the top floor.
Websites
Don’t be fooled by the bare bones website, Vinos Y Yo (aka https://www.comprarvinomallorquin.com) Has some of the most complete offerings on the whole island.
Dismavi is another great option. You can also visit their store in Manacor. It’s about a 45 minute drive from Palma.
Josep is your guy for natural wines on the island. He has some of the best from here, Spain, and France.
So there you have it: my guide to choose the best wine store in Palma. It all depends on what you’re looking for, so take your pic.
